The Locksmith Locator exists to help people in urgent situations quickly find qualified, trustworthy locksmith professionals in their area. We believe consumers deserve transparent, accurate directory information — not paid placements disguised as organic results.

Our editorial standards are built around accuracy, transparency, and user safety. We do not accept payment for higher placement or favorable editorial treatment in our directory.

How We Source Listings

Business listings in our directory are compiled from publicly available sources, including:

• State and local business registration databases
• Federal Communications Commission (FCC) public records
• Publicly accessible business directories and maps
• Business submissions via our contact form

We do not invent listings or fabricate contact information. All phone numbers and addresses are taken from public records as of the date of collection.

Verification Standards

We apply the following checks to listings where data is available:

• Phone number validation — we flag numbers that appear in multiple unrelated businesses (a known scam signal)
• Address validation — listings without a verifiable physical or service address are suppressed or marked unverified
• Duplicate detection — we deduplicate listings that appear to represent the same business under multiple names

Listings that pass these checks may display a "Verified" badge. Verification is an automated signal of data consistency — it is not a guarantee of licensing, insurance, or quality. Users should always confirm licensing directly with the provider and their state's licensing authority.

Editorial Content (Guides & Articles)

Our guides, how-to articles, and cost information pages are written to educate consumers on the locksmith industry. Our editorial standards for this content include:

• Accuracy — factual claims are based on industry research, state regulations, and published pricing data. We update content when regulations or market conditions change.
• Independence — editorial content is produced independently of our directory operations. No locksmith business pays for favorable mention in guides.
• Sourcing — where specific facts or regulations are cited, we link to primary sources (state licensing boards, federal agencies, or authoritative industry publications).
• Recency — each guide displays a "last reviewed" date. We review major guides at least annually.

Consumer Safety Guidance

Locksmith scams are a documented consumer protection issue. Throughout our site, we include safety guidance such as:

• Requesting a written estimate before authorizing work
• Asking for proof of licensing and identification
• Avoiding providers who quote prices dramatically below market rate then add unexpected charges
• Contacting local law enforcement if safety is at risk

Corrections Policy

We take factual accuracy seriously. If you identify an error in a listing or in editorial content:

• We will review the report within 5 business days
• Verified errors will be corrected promptly, with the "last updated" date revised
• Significant corrections to editorial content will be noted at the bottom of the affected article

Listing Removal Requests

Locksmith businesses can request removal of their listing from our directory at any time by contacting us. We will process valid removal requests within 10 business days. See our Terms of Service for details.

Advertising Disclosure

The Locksmith Locator may display contextual advertising (such as Google AdSense) in the future. Any paid placements will be clearly labeled as "Sponsored" or "Advertisement." Advertising relationships do not influence editorial content or listing rankings.
